Imagine a room filled with a range of bullet sized lipsticks, if every imaginable shade, all lined up and pretty – did your eyes go a little starry too? Lipsticks can be everything from a girl’s obsession to a part of her identity. And that’s why, we believe it is essential to know how to get the most out of a lipstick. Scroll on for our list of lipstick hacks you definitely need to know about:
Exfoliate: Just like your face, your lips need exfoliation too, well, at least if you want a smoother lip colour application. Use a toothbrush or a clean mascara wand and softly get rid of the extra skin. Apply some balm on before though; this will just ease up the process.
The Finger: A messy lipstick application will leave stains everywhere on and in your mouth. To keep lipstick off your teeth, just stick a clean pointer finger in your mouth, wrap your lips around it, and pull it out. All the excess lipstick should be on the finger now, instead of your teeth.
Brush Hacks: So whoever said lipstick should only ever be applied with a lipstick brush? If you are looking for a more diffused look, a fluffy eyeshadow brush is your best friend.
Eyeshadow Lipstick: Sometimes, things break, and then you feel like you wasted them. Just like with eyeshadows. If your favourite eyeshadow crumbles, but it’s a colour you could use on your lips, then you haven’t wasted anything. Not on our watch, at least. Just mix the crumbly bits with some clear balm on a spoon, and use it as lipstick. Tada!
Blot It Good: We’re sure you know the age-old technique of folding a tissue in half and then holding it in your mouth to blot away lip colour after application. But do you know how to do it right? The most effective way to blot, if to blot right in between two applications of lipstick. This takes away any excess oil on your lips from the first application, allowing a better grip for the second application.
Wear It Longer: Dust some translucent powder over a tissue held at your lips after applying the colour to make sure the lip colour stays on longer. As you dust, some of the powder will transfer onto the tissue, thus locking in the colour. Cool, right?
Make It Pop: Line the outside of your lips with a cover up and a concealer brush after applying colour. And then, stand back and be amazed at how wonderfully this makes your lip colour pop.
Bullets & Lighters: One of the saddest things to ever happen is a broken lipstick. If your lipstick bullet falls off, all your need is some patience and a lighter. Use the flame to melt the bottom of the bullet slightly and fix it to the base. Then melt the two pieces at the spot they meet to fuse them back together.
Tomatoes, Broccoli, and Lipsticks: If case of a very hot day, store your lipsticks in the refrigerator. Sounds weird, we know, but you’ll thank us when it’s easier to apply the lipstick the next day because it didn’t melt away in the heat.
Hairspray Stain Remover: Apart from keeping your hair in place, your trusty hairspray also doubles up as a great lipstick stain remover. Just spray the fabric and let it stay for a few minutes. Then dab the stain, and put it in for a wash. Simple, right?
