Casual Dramatics

I’ve been excited about sharing this blog post with you since the day we shot it. The empowering white and blue, Greek vibes that come through from the location we shot this look at, the flare of the sleeves, the detailing of the curls done in my hair by the wonderful makeup and hair artist we had on board or simply the fact that these new denims fit me just right, are all little (big) factors that easily top this post to be one of my 2017 favourites.

For my everyday style, elements of denim come through so easily. But through the summer, I’m more picky about how and where I choose to wear the fabric. While I’ve been shuffling between palazzos, playsuits and skirts, I have to admit to myself that nothing flatters the waist-hip-lines like a pair of high waist denims. And for me, it works as an added bonus when it’s a fit an flare kind of a look. Which brings me to: this particular shirt. This Palak Parikh shirt caught my attention sometime around my wedding. While it usually comes with the pairing of a similarly detailed skirt, I chose to add a more everyday look to it by pairing it up with these new denims I got my hands on from H&M (I bought these from the Phoenix Marketcity Mall store). I’ve always maintained that my personal style is extremely relaxed and nonchalant, but with a hint of experimenting mixed in it; off late, I think it’s been more of the latter. While I’ve changed a few things around my wardrobe and am trying a few new ways of reinventing my style, I think it’s safe to say that a new thing I’ve adopted is also that I’m stepping two steps ahead of my usual comfort zone. You’ll see more body suits, shirts with pants, fit-and-flares and a hopefully, more accessories, too, as part of my upcoming looks. My recent hair colour change (which I’m sure you’ve already seen on the blog or on my Insta-feed) are baby steps into the world of me trying newer things. Well, that is the boon as well as challenge of being part of such an ever-changing industry, isn’t it? That you have to constantly reinvent yourself, constantly share what I’m loving – and the highlight for me – is that I get to show you snippets of all of this through my feeds!

Coming to the details of this look: The self-work on the shirt teamed up with the soft lines of fabric make up most of the look for the shirt, but the highlight of this piece, undoubtedly, is its sleeves. The drama which they bring with them is something that’s unmissable, and it pretty much seals the glamour quotient for the outfit. With denims, I’ve almost complete slipped into the high-waist mode recently. Remember, not only does something high-waist make your legs look longer and sleeker, but it will also make your tummy (if you have any) seem better toned. I collaborated with Naima for the makeup and hair on this look, and I’ve been super thrilled with the neat outcome of her work. She played with my growing brows very well (something I find myself struggling with often) and complemented the tones well with hints of mauve and brown in the eye makeup. The pop of ombre pink on the lips completed the beauty for me almost perfectly; which was further perfected by her masterstroke of curls!
