Day Five was as splendid as it could be. With the shows getting better with each passing day, this one was with a line up that had me all pumped up & excited for how LFW was going to bid goodbye to us this season; and as predicted, we weren’t let down at all! Almost every show being liked by me on this particular day (mind you, I’m saying ‘almost’), I noticed that this day was with the most number of celebrity show stoppers. From Sameera Reddy for Archana Kochhar, Huma Qureshi for Atithi Gupta to Hema Malini for Neeta Lulla & of course, the much talked about finale – Kareena Kapoor (the face of Lakme) for Kallol Datta & Pankaj and Nidhi. “Starstruck” was the song for the day.
From Nishka Lulla‘s experiment into subter colours than her usual style, to Prashant Chauhan‘s unique conjoined twins look, the day was giving me more than I expected. Going towards the afternoon shows of Atithi Gupta, Nupur Kanoi & Bodice, all of it only got better. Ranging from digital prints, stiff-laced peplums to stylish androgyny, this slot seemed to have it all. The Archana Kochhar, Sailex & Rajat Tangri shows only raised the bar some more with their usage of pastel shades in sheers, raw silk body hugging numbers and sexy corsets. Neeta Lulla’s show that started off with Hema Malini’s beautiful dance to classical music (though she never really hit head ramp at all!) also made everyone sit back and take notice in the embroidery detailing over the beautiful colours.
By now the bars were raised and I was hoping against hope for the finale of the season to be better than any other show of the day. And for that I have to say that as far as the Kallol Datta show was concerned, I wasn’t disappointed.[slideshow]
The grand finale may have started at midnight, over an hour later than scheduled, but boy, wasn’t it worth it!? The ambience was kicking in the adrenal rush for me as though I was seating myself on a roller coaster, and the rush, excitement in the way the crowd applauded the beginning of the finale had me smiling from ear to ear – I was after all, about to witness my first ever finale first hand!
Starting off with a video about the upcoming monochrome shows and Lakme’s theme for the season, the Lakme Make Up Show that preceded the Kallol Datta & Pankaj and Nidhi shows wasn’t one to miss. With the models blind folded with bling and/or covering make up, their lips were counting steps & everyone was hoping nothing goes wrong – and as planned, it all went beautifully. Kallol Datta’s show was full of androgynous cuts & grunge make up. From the gothic eyes to the finely geld hair, the look was all set to turn everyone’s glamorous side less shiny and colourful – and for a change, I was more than just liking it! Bonus points? Kareena’s monochrome, plunging neckline, hot overcoat on the black leather peep-toes and tribal neckpiece had me hoping this show wouldn’t end! Now giving the Pankaj & Nidhi show review is what I’m finding tricky around here. I’ll be honest – it wasn’t one of my favorites. None the less, Kareena Kapoor looked ravishing in the high-necked black tassel number! And that’s something you can’t disagree with me about!
