Not So Basic

One of my most favourite things about being a real girl style blogger is my ability to search out clothes that are the perfect marriage between style and utility. I love a good find that looks amazing, fits great, one that will last me more than just a couple of washes and extremely importantly: that can be styled in multiple ways (because who loves the same old boring stuff right?)

People often ask me how I go about styling and creating the ensembles I do. And my answer is almost always the same: its about the process of taking this outfit from the way I see it in the store or on an eCommerce website, to being able to mix it up with pieces from my own closet. I love to maximise the ways in which a particular piece may be worn.

This denim jacket from Max Fashion that you see here, is something that can be worn as is, open at the front or on the sides. You may create different looks: from the chic to the edgy and casual. I paired this versatile piece with a grey bodysuit and one of my favourite sketch-style, printed three-fourth pants. Here are three things to keep in mind when you’re looking to get your hands on some price friendly, utilitarian pieces for your wardrobe:

  1. Make note of the colour, fabric and print: does it have enough possible combinations with what rests in your closet? Will those combinations work for your personal style?
  2. Visualise: how many ways do you see this outfit (or piece) coming to life in? Could it be worn with a layer, multiple layers or just as is? How day-to-night friendly is this look?
  3. Value: because nothing is good enough if it doesn’t fit the bill – literally! Look out for the quality of the garment and don’t forget to pay attention to its washing instructions. If you think of how many times you might wear it (based on points 1 and 2) versus the price tag, do you see the value? Is it an investment or a splurge?

If you’re looking for some high on design as well as price value options, go over to the Max Fashion website or walk into one of their stores. I’m sure you’ll find something for every day of the week!
